EMA Legal welcomes Sue Porter and Abby Wright to our growing team of solicitors

Sue Porter – Associate (mid-July)

Sue brings with her diverse experience in industrial relations and employment law, gained whilst working in a range of industries in State and Federal jurisdiction. Most recently she was Principal Industrial Relations Adviser within a State Government department, responsible for disputes and monetary claims. She was admitted to practice as a barrister and solicitor in the Supreme Court of South Australia in April 2021 and holds a South Australian Practising Certificate.  In addition to her law studies, she holds a Graduate Diploma in Public Health and Bachelor of Business majoring in Human Resource Management and Industrial Relations.

Previously working as an adviser, manager and consultant, Sue has provided advice to various stakeholders on a range of employment matters, including interpretation of industrial instruments and legislation. She brings with her knowledge of health and safety laws and experience in workers compensation including claims management and dispute resolution, policy development and training. Sue is an experienced negotiator, being the lead employer representative for enterprise agreement negotiations during her various prior employment positions, also having represented her employer/ clients in commissions and tribunals including the Fair Work Commission, South Australian Employment Tribunal, SA Industrial Relations Commission and Human Rights and Equal Opportunity Commission.

Sue’s passion for industrial relations and employment law, has been a common thread in her employment history and we look forward to her joining EMA Legal and introducing her valuable skill set to our clients.

Abby Wright – Solicitor

We are delighted to announce that Abby Wright joined our team as a Solicitor in June 2021, following her admission to practice as a solicitor and barrister in the Supreme Court of South Australia. Abby completed her law degree at the University of Adelaide in 2019 and also holds a Bachelor of Arts majoring in German Studies and International Relations.

Abby first started with EMA Legal in November 2020 as a legal administrative assistant/ receptionist and law clerk which gave her valuable grounding in understanding our legal practice and learning more about our clients, before advancing her South Australian Practising Certificate.

Abby has a keen interest in employment and industrial law and we welcome her to our team.
