School & Tertiary Education

EMA Legal has a range of clients in the school and tertiary education sectors. As Australia moves increasingly to a tertiary sector economy, we understand the pivotal role education will play in Australia’s future. A small sample our clients and the types of work we perform for them is set out below.

EMA Legal is one of the few firms Australia wide that understands the unique legal challenges faced by schools. School law is a specialist area that requires unique experience and expertise. For information on our school law services please click here.

Over a number of years we have built strong relationships within the leaderships of various private schools, and within the independent and Catholic school sectors. We recognise that teachers are the core part of any school. A number of principals and boards appreciate our sensitive approach and expertise in managing employment issues concerning teachers. When schools come to us with legal problems our extensive experience acting for schools means we can provide efficient, tailored advice.

We are regularly retained by a number of registered training organisations and other vocational education providers for legal advice and representation. Recently we have advised and represented a number of vocational providers in contractual disputes with third parties. We have first hand experience of the competitive grant environment in which vocational providers operate and provide legal services to meet their commercial imperatives.

We advise tertiary education providers on a range of other issues such as grants and contractual matters, legal issues concerning student conduct, and regulatory compliance. We also assist tertiary education providers with policy drafting and privacy and social media advice.
